Inspite of the advances made in agriculture, many people around the world still go hungry. Why is this the case? What can be done about this problem?
Agriculture has been major sector in almost all the nations around the globe. With the advancements in technology, there has been a tremendous increase in crop yield, despite all these developments, several people starve. Multiple reasons responsible for this issue are scrutinize in subsequent paragraphs along with relevant measures to overcome it.
One of the significant reasons why masses lack adequate supply of food is uneven distribution of wealth. There is a gap between elite and poor class. Under-privileged do not have enough money to buy food for them. For instance, labour class is usually hand to mouth, as they earn on daily basis. This scenario was closely observed recently during pandemic Covid-19, when thousands of people could not survive because of shortage of food. Secondly, the population of world keeps on multiplying leading to lack of food supply. Due to rise in population, several agriculture lands are converted to residential areas leading to decline in crops grown. Apart from this, natural disasters like floods, droughts, excess and untimely monsoon plays major role in destroying worth millions of crops.
However, the aforementioned challenges can be takled by adopting appropriate measures. First and foremost, some strict laws should be implemented for providing daily wages; labourers should not be exploited on the basis of gender, caste or age. Irrespective of men or women, both should get equal wages. Further, some strategies should be enforced to handle problems like flood and inadequate rainfall so that a large amount of crops should not go wasted.
All in all, it can be summarized that no doubt, there is plenty available for all, however, government and concerned authorities need to act rationally to make it available for all.
